QUESTIONS ASKED UPON DEATH

Assalamualaikum wbt, hello readers !
The ideal life is a balanced life. Although we are striving in this world, we also should strive for a better world after death. Hence-this post, as a reminder for you & me.

Five Questions Upon Death:
Questions, Five.
Rasul Allah (سيدنا محمدصلي الله تعالي آله واصحابي وسلم) said, "The two feet of the son of Adam will not move from near his Lord on the Day of Judgement until he is asked about five (matters) concerning his life - how he spent it; about his youth - how he took care of it; about his wealth - how he earned it; and where he spent it; and about that which he acted upon from the knowledge he acquired." [Tirmidhi]

So there is no escape from being questioned about:
1. Your life - how you spent it. Was it in righteousness and piety or in sin and transgression?
2. Your youth - how you spent it. Was it in acts of obedience or acts of disobedience to Allah?
3. Your wealth - how you acquired it. Was it from that which is halaal or from that which is haraam?
4. Your wealth - how you spent it. Did you give others their rights in it - your relatives, the needy, the orphans, the mujahideen... or did you squander it on yourself alone?
5. Your knowledge - how you acted upon it. How much of your knowledge of Allah’s Deen did you put into practice? Did you study Islam to live by its teachings or did you acquire knowledge of the Quran and hadith to appear knowledgeable with it or gather wealth with it?
These things we seldom think about or question ourselves over. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) has promised us our sustenance, but not promised us forgiveness. Yet we fret over the acquisition of wealth but not over acquiring Allah’s forgiveness. Doomed is the person who does not question himself, but waits to be questioned!
- Sheikh Imran Hosein

May Allah swt forgive us and guide us. Aameen.

MY FIRST BRAZILIAN...

Assalamualaikum wbt, hello readers!

Hope you are happy and well. It's a long weekend for us because tomorrow is Labour Day and that means we get Monday off! YAY! So earlier today my best friend Kathryna and I had an appointment at Bubblegumwax (Ampang Branch) for our very first brazillian wax! Yes, you read it right. I discovered them through Instagram and saw their promotion for first timers; rm29 brazillian wax with free underarm. This promotion is applicable for soft wax only, upgrade to hard wax costs rm21- I immediately booked ! Good to note, there are NO hidden costs.

Based on Wikipedia,

Brazilian waxing is the removal of all hair in the pelvic area, front and back, while sometimes leaving a thin strip of hair on the mons pubis. It can be used by those who wear thong bikinis.[21] It is a form of bikini waxing, and involves the complete removal of hair from the buttocks and adjacent to the anusperineum and vulva (labia majora and mons pubis).Brazilian waxing is also known as a full Brazilian waxfull bikini waxHollywood wax or the Sphinx (named after the naked breed of cat).

I wanted to try it out, you know.. just out of curiosity and for the sake of trying. Plus, since I'm getting married soon, why not make it a point to go ahead and brave it. Thankfully, I have a daredevil best friend as well, who has been kind enough to go through this new experience with me <3

I booked our appointments through their website and it was super easy and they responded pretty fast. They explained everything in detail and laid out options, wether we want soft wax or hard wax. Unfortunately, our sessions could not be done simultaneously as there is an appointment after mine so Kath had to wait a bit. Then one day before our appointment they called to ask for our confirmation which I find very practical as sometimes we tend to forget hehe :)

We got there slightly late (by 15mins) because I had to be somewhere before that and got stuck in a jam on mrr2. The branch we went to is their newest branch, located in wisma ampang, next to ampang point. Parking is a bit of a fuss but we were lucky to get one spot near the place. When we reached there, we had to fill in a form as we were first timers, which included some personal info, allergies, any meds we're taking that might interfere with waxing etc.

The place is clean, nicely air-conditioned, not a conventional waxing place, it has a unique identity to it with exposed brick walls and black furniture. It was nice. The staff was very friendly and outgoing-which made me feel less nervous. They asked us wether we needed to go to the washroom before we entered the waxing room. Then the journey to a hairless V begins!

Entrance

Reception & a happy meow meow

As you enter the room

There..the waxing bed and waxing stuff

As I entered, my therapist (forgot to ask her name!) gave me simple steps to get ready;
1. Take bottom off
2. Wipe body part with hygiene wipe (loved the lemony smell!)
3. Lay down on the waxing bed (ahaha i don't know what it's called)

Before coming in, they asked permission and to check wether I was ready.
Truthfully, my therapist made me feel totally at ease. I wasn't nervous at all then. She greeted me and then positioned me. (yes you have to kangkang a bit) There's one layer of towel on the waxing bed, with a layer of white paper on top of it that we're supposed to position our bottom I suppose.

So I opted for soft wax instead of hard wax, and no I didn't take any painkillers prior to my appointment. She wore plastic gloves and all the wooden sticks and white strips are disposable. I think their hygiene is up to my standard, which was comforting. She started with wiping the area again with a cold wipe which was nice, then put some baby powder i think. Then she put the sugary soft wax (colour like honey) onto the desired area, asking me wether is too hot. Then she put white cloth strips on top of the wax that has cooled down a bit, pulled my skin taut and zzzrrap. I was amazed at how painless it was ! So I didn't bother to anticipate the next zzrap and played with my phone instead. I even took some pics during the session and sent to my other girl friends hahaha! The best part was after each "zrrap" she would immediately put a cold wet wipe which masks the pain. I think the painful bit is only when they're waxing the inner parts of your down there. The others were unnoticeable. After gross waxing, they did some finishing, then plucked off the stray hairs and ended it with a soothing lotion. Don't worry, you can immediately walk normally afterwards hahaha! The session lasted less than 30mins, but this varies with clients.

Just before she left the room, she gave me 3 simple post-waxing instructions;
1. No hot shower
2. No swimming
3. No scrubbing
all of the above for 24hrs.

There's a mirror in the room so you could actually see the difference and was I amazed ! *ROFL*

When we went out of the room, one of the staff immediately asked how it went, how we felt about it, which was comforting and all I could say was positive things. She helped schedule our next appointment as we were not able to do the free underarm waxing as they were pressed for time. They also gave us a small (edible) jar of honey to bring back, thought that was very thoughtful as well.

Overall, I would rate this place a 4.5/5. The other 0.5 lacking is due to its location-parking is a fuss, especially during weekends. Otherwise, I would TOTALLY recommend everybody to get your waxing done here :) P/s: the excruciating pain of Brazilian wax you've been hearing about...it's exaggeration.

Two little happy (and furless) ladies ;D

Till then,
xx

I'M A HALF DENTIST

Assalamualaikum wbt, hello readers !

Hope you are doing well...well why aren't you?? It's finally the weekend !!!!!! Ugh I worship my weekends cause it means I can finally spend some lazy time at home with my loved ones and eat home cooked meal and not having to rush here and there <3 Hope you appreciate your weekends as much as I do !

Anyhow, I've noticed that I've been posting more about my wedding and  hence have decided to spill in some updates on my progress in dental school as well. Life is after all about balance. I don't want to come out as someone who's obsessed about getting married....cause I'm not. I'm just excited, (and nervous of course :3). I've said it many times and I will say it again.. marriage is not just about the wedding, it's a lifetime, so I prefer to focus more on the lifetime part of the marriage and not put my heart and soul on the wedding itself. But you know, whatever that floats your boat. My idea of a perfect wedding is an intimate, simple but tasteful wedding attended by only relatives and close friends, people interacting and laughing over old stories, with no protocol and the whole shebang of a grand wedding, basically where everyone is having a good time. Okay this is getting out of topic....LOL

BACK ON TRACK HERE:
You know there's this famous tagline that goes "KEEP CALM CAUSE I'M A (fill in the blank)"? I came across one that said "Keep calm cause I'm a half dentist" through a classmate's desktop picture and got really interested with it because
One: I am halfway to finishing my degree..there but not THERE yet!
Two: It's like saying I can treat you but won't promise it'll be perfect (but fret not, I am competent enough)
Three:  It's also a good reason to give IF I make mistakes ;D

Like say, the other day my oral surgery lecturer asked me a question and I gave a completely vague answer.. just before he gunned me with remarks like "come on, how come you don't know this..you're already treating patients!" I  quickly let out "Dr., I'm only a half dentist" and just then I saw what I thought to be a laugh which later turned into a snort LOL! Phewh, glad that he found it amusing! So basically that tagline saved my ass. Have to try it on other lecturers too! K no maybe I just should buck up and not forget what I regurgitate.

My best friend (Kathryna) and I after her first dental checkup with me.
My clinic partner (Marwan) and I testing out the new OPG machine.

Now that I'm in my last semester as a 3rd year dental student, and freakin 38 days away from my 3rd professional exam..I guess I've grown and developed a lot in terms of clinical skills, hands-on experience seriously propels you into amazing heights. I remember when I started clinics I was so nervous in giving patients intraoral LA injections (where we numb you up before certain procedures), up to the point where I was literally shaking and had difficulty in fixing the needle to the syringe! Now that I have no problems in giving injections anymore (alhamdulillah), looking back, all you need is experience. Experience is GOLD when it comes to treating patients. You learn a lot more and at a faster rate through clinical experience.

Some MAJOR differences between clinics and pre-clinical sim lab:
  1. Patients can move, so you have to be extra careful with all things sharp & dangerous.
  2. Patients have gums.. that BLEED! Mannequins don't. Need to take extra care not to cut someone's gums when doing a class II. Can't even put in a wedge without making them gums bleed like cray ;(
  3. You only have 2 hands.. and as soon as they go in the patient mouth they're "dirty". Maintaining sterile technique is a bit of an internal organizational battle. Taking gloves on and off, rummaging through "clean" drawers, etc..
  4. Patients have saliva.. and you don't want to drown your patient.
  5. No one has frasaco teeth.
  6. Patients are real people! Real people with real feelings, real fears, real pain, and real questions.

Having said that, I still can't believe that I've done multiple composite restorations under rubber dam isolation, multiple LA injections, replacing old/faulty restorations, taken multiple successful radiographs, scaling & polishing, planning treatments, scheduling appointments, for ACTUAL LIVING, BREATHING PEOPLE!!!  I have yet to do extractions & dentures though.
Will be doing my first extraction next Wednesday, hoping it'll turn out well in sya Allah. Then I can call up my first complete denture patients. Baby steps.

---

Wedding planning will have to watch from the sidelines soon, at least until I'm finished with my professional exam. Things are getting cray cray! Pray for me :)

Till then, half dentist will be graduating to a three-quarter dentist in a few months' time.

xx

BRIDEZILLA POST #3 : Progress

Assalamualaikum wbt, hello readers !

As per usual, my eyes go wide when I look at the date of my last post but try to forgive myself (again). I swear I have so much of updating to do and don't even know where or how to start!

Wedding planning is still a go, and I'm on my way to be a professional juggler (read: juggling dental school & planning a wedding and basically life) , not that I'm complaining though, have always thought that I had amazing organizing skills or at least I've been told *coughs*. Well, I get by with a little (A LOT) of help from my Queen, bridesmaids, Aladdin & especially my grandparents.

So let's get down to business. Wedding is .....5 months and 13 days away !! *hyperventilates*

What have I taken care of so far?

1. Kursus kahwin - did this with 3 of my bridesmaids at JAIS in Shah Alam
2. Venue booking - K'seena House-place is amazeballs. Very 'us'.
3. Nikah/Reception attire booking - Natashamazalan
4. Henna booking- Hennabelle

7. Finalise guest list
8. Honeymoon flight tix & hotel booking
9. Dulang hantaran booking
10. Photography booking- Bingkaiphotovisuals
11. Videography booking- Awanblu
12. Doorgifts is otw, thanks to my Queen. Would have to start thinking about the doorgift for kiddos.

Things I have yet to do:-

1. Invitation cards
2. Visit venue
3. Survey watches for Aladdin's hantaran
4. HIV test
5. Get started on the documents
6. Discuss rough event flow
7. Pick emcee
8. Discuss about entertainment

10. Deco- bunga pahar, bunga manggar, welcome table

So that's about it. Sorry I didn't leave in more details, don't wanna spoil the suprise ! :) But here's some pictures for compensation....

Do pray for us, for everything to be eased and be blessed. In sya Allah, aameen.

Wish us luck too<3

Free time, NOT

Hi guess what? Im back. I have a week of free time, well technically not that free cause right after my holiday is a series of module tests *cringes & cries* WHY COLLEGE WHYYYY??!
I've been suffering mentally, socially and probably spiritually for the past few weeks because of final exam only to come to know that my holiday will be another study week, aka study week 2.0?
HELL NO. I will not allow this torture to continue.

My last big decision for 2015: To bring back books to Langkawi to study or not?

It's still a battle that have yet to resolve...and I'm flying back tomorrow evening. This is hilarious, well at least to me haha if only you could listen to the voices in my mind.

I don't think I'll be studying anyways back in Langkawi. Have too many things planned out already. No.space.for.studying. I know I'll regret this but whatevs.

Now that I have some free time on my hands, let me tell you the stuff that I wanna do in Langkawi;
1. Chill
2. Do nothing
3. Cut my hair and maybe get a weird highlight just because
4. Make a few covers that I've been postponing to do
5. Do some wedding planning with the motherness
6. Send some kain for tailoring
7. Take nice pictures
8. Spend quality time with Ma & Pa
9. Construct a 2016 resolution by 31st Dec 2015

Til then xx

BRIDEZILLA POST #2: Wedding Planning

Assalamualaikum, hello !

Some brief introduction to our wedding characters; Princess Jasmine, Queen, & Aladdin
Princess Jasmine : 21, dental student, borderline perfectionist, self proclaimed minimalist, mildly obsessed with planning her wedding, sometimes feels like a solo bride.  Aladdin said he had “unleashed the beast" when I belatedly realised that being engaged means WE CAN START PLANNING OUR WEDDING!!!  Will be forever indebted to our Queen, who’s helping me loads with wedding planning. Alhamdulillah.:)
Aladdin : 23, Islamic banking & finance final year student, wants to get married without a wedding. *sings miss Swift's Wildesssttt dreammmsss aaah* hahaha we all wish. Between the two of us, he’s 100x more rational, patient and calm. AND always agrees to my decisions (when it comes to picking colours, deco etc etc) muahahaha
Queen: 43, the best mamazilla a bridezilla can have, always quick with ideas, in sync with what Princess visualizes, VERY supportive, organized, efficient and always knows when it's too much. The woman Princess worships after her Creator & the messenger, and last but not least, her best friend. Also to all the BTBs out there, mamazillas can be wayyy ahead of you, so just a heads up! haha
Now that's done, let's get down to business. So what do you need to plan a wedding?
1. A potential husband
2. 2 agreeing, supportive families
3. Money
4. Mamazillas
5. A wedding file
6. A wedding notebook
7. Resources: past brides, GOOGLE, instagram

Got all that? Congratulations, now lets go step by step.
STEP 1: THE MEETING
Both sides of the families (parents, future bride+groom) meet, talk, and discuss the following;
-the need to follow malay customs; merisik, bertunang?
-mas kahwin, duit hantaran, berapa dulang hantaran
-how many events are taking place ie: majlis akad nikah, bersanding, bertandang
-DATES!
-Venues
-Total guests invited
-Themes
-Living arrangements
Note every single detail in your wedding notebook.
Oh and they might throw in FOC family planning advice too btw harharhar
STEP 2: UPDATING THE WEDDING FILE
-divide and tag each division clearly
As for mine, it's divided by event and each event includes my to do lists, budget sheet, guest list, vendors & inspirations
STEP 3: RESEARCH, RESEARCH,  RESEARCH !
There's no such thing as a "too early preparation". The more time you have, the higher the chance of you getting exactly what u want at an inexpensive price. I depend on Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook and basically the internet for this. I ask for vendors's quotations and flag ALL the quotations in my email inbox for easy reference.
STEP 4: LIST OF VENDORS YOU MIGHT NEED
1. Invitations, welcome boards, buntings & other printworks.
2. Photographer & videographer
3. Wedding attire
4. Doorgifts
5. Make up
6. Henna
7. Deco, pelamin & floral arrangements
8. Wedding cake
9. Venues
10. Catering
11. Entertainment
STEP 5: TO-DO LIST BY MONTH
I made a monthly to do list so that I have a timeline of things to be settled each month, so that no time is wasted only planning and no executing, heyyy I'm still a student and time is goldddd! So ie for May 2016 I have to get the wedding documents done, my HIV test done, just ensure there's a rationale of putting that agenda under that particular month. Like the HIV test, I'm planning to do it 4 months before the wedding because it's only valid for 6 months.
That's pretty much about it. Hope it'll benefit the BTBs out there and I wish for a smooth journey ahead. In sya Allah. Some word of advice from a humble servant as such myself;
at the end of the day, a wedding is only part of the marriage, so don't focus too much on the wedding, what's important is that the marriage lasts until Jannah. in sya Allah.
p/s: The guest list is the HARDEST thing to finalise on. So, all the best !
Princess out for now.
