MY FIRST BRAZILIAN...

Hope you are happy and well. It's a long weekend for us because tomorrow is Labour Day and that means we get Monday off! YAY! So earlier today my best friend Kathryna and I had an appointment at Bubblegumwax (Ampang Branch) for our very first brazillian wax! Yes, you read it right. I discovered them through Instagram and saw their promotion for first timers; rm29 brazillian wax with free underarm. This promotion is applicable for soft wax only, upgrade to hard wax costs rm21- I immediately booked ! Good to note, there are NO hidden costs.

Brazilian waxing is the removal of all hair in the pelvic area, front and back, while sometimes leaving a thin strip of hair on the mons pubis. It can be used by those who wear thong bikinis.^[21] It is a form of bikini waxing, and involves the complete removal of hair from the buttocks and adjacent to the anus, perineum and vulva (labia majora and mons pubis).Brazilian waxing is also known as a full Brazilian wax, full bikini wax, Hollywood wax or the Sphinx (named after the naked breed of cat).

I wanted to try it out, you know.. just out of curiosity and for the sake of trying. Plus, since I'm getting married soon, why not make it a point to go ahead and brave it. Thankfully, I have a daredevil best friend as well, who has been kind enough to go through this new experience with me <3 

I booked our appointments through their website and it was super easy and they responded pretty fast. They explained everything in detail and laid out options, wether we want soft wax or hard wax. Unfortunately, our sessions could not be done simultaneously as there is an appointment after mine so Kath had to wait a bit. Then one day before our appointment they called to ask for our confirmation which I find very practical as sometimes we tend to forget hehe :)

We got there slightly late (by 15mins) because I had to be somewhere before that and got stuck in a jam on mrr2. The branch we went to is their newest branch, located in wisma ampang, next to ampang point. Parking is a bit of a fuss but we were lucky to get one spot near the place. When we reached there, we had to fill in a form as we were first timers, which included some personal info, allergies, any meds we're taking that might interfere with waxing etc. 

The place is clean, nicely air-conditioned, not a conventional waxing place, it has a unique identity to it with exposed brick walls and black furniture. It was nice. The staff was very friendly and outgoing-which made me feel less nervous. They asked us wether we needed to go to the washroom before we entered the waxing room. Then the journey to a hairless V begins!

As I entered, my therapist (forgot to ask her name!) gave me simple steps to get ready;
1. Take bottom off
2. Wipe body part with hygiene wipe (loved the lemony smell!)
3. Lay down on the waxing bed (ahaha i don't know what it's called)

Before coming in, they asked permission and to check wether I was ready.
Truthfully, my therapist made me feel totally at ease. I wasn't nervous at all then. She greeted me and then positioned me. (yes you have to kangkang a bit) There's one layer of towel on the waxing bed, with a layer of white paper on top of it that we're supposed to position our bottom I suppose.

So I opted for soft wax instead of hard wax, and no I didn't take any painkillers prior to my appointment. She wore plastic gloves and all the wooden sticks and white strips are disposable. I think their hygiene is up to my standard, which was comforting. She started with wiping the area again with a cold wipe which was nice, then put some baby powder i think. Then she put the sugary soft wax (colour like honey) onto the desired area, asking me wether is too hot. Then she put white cloth strips on top of the wax that has cooled down a bit, pulled my skin taut and zzzrrap. I was amazed at how painless it was ! So I didn't bother to anticipate the next zzrap and played with my phone instead. I even took some pics during the session and sent to my other girl friends hahaha! The best part was after each "zrrap" she would immediately put a cold wet wipe which masks the pain. I think the painful bit is only when they're waxing the inner parts of your down there. The others were unnoticeable. After gross waxing, they did some finishing, then plucked off the stray hairs and ended it with a soothing lotion. Don't worry, you can immediately walk normally afterwards hahaha! The session lasted less than 30mins, but this varies with clients.

Just before she left the room, she gave me 3 simple post-waxing instructions;
1. No hot shower
2. No swimming
3. No scrubbing
all of the above for 24hrs.

There's a mirror in the room so you could actually see the difference and was I amazed ! *ROFL*

When we went out of the room, one of the staff immediately asked how it went, how we felt about it, which was comforting and all I could say was positive things. She helped schedule our next appointment as we were not able to do the free underarm waxing as they were pressed for time. They also gave us a small (edible) jar of honey to bring back, thought that was very thoughtful as well.

Overall, I would rate this place a 4.5/5. The other 0.5 lacking is due to its location-parking is a fuss, especially during weekends. Otherwise, I would TOTALLY recommend everybody to get your waxing done here :) P/s: the excruciating pain of Brazilian wax you've been hearing about...it's exaggeration.
